He takes advantage of his unhindered movement to remain at melee 2, just outside the reach of most melee characters where he can restrain them with his breath weapon and then deliver Savage Mauling. Rather than moving and then attacking, the dragon prefers to set up situations where he can attack an adjacent enemy then either move or shift away to force that enemy to move through the Eruption of Thorns, taking more damage. If the breath weapon is unavailable, the dragon will often Thorn Wrap a distant ranged attacker and then summon Brambler Underlings to overwhelm them up close. Brooding and distrustful, cobalt dragons respect only strength. They breathe bitterly cold clouds of vapor that freeze their victims in thick ice. Cobalt dragons are usually found in frigid, gloomy lands, such as the forests of the far north or the mistbound vales of the Shadowfell. They measure their power by the quality and quantity of lesser creatures they can subjugate; most cobalts take pride in the martial spirit and abilities of their minions, but the worst are brutal, bullying tyrants who demand fealty and tribute. This trait makes it dangerous for travelers to venture into lands claimed by cobalt dragons, since the dragons might attack passing travelers to establish their own strength. Good-aligned cobalt dragons are likely to accept a foe’s surrender after a suitable show of force and allow them to go their way after a judicious bribe or promise of tribute. Wicked cobalt dragons are inclined to fall on travelers and simply devour them if the lesser creatures can’t offer any worthwhile ransom for their lives. 44 Dragon Dragons are reptilian creatures. Most of them have wings as well as a breath weapon. Minor Encounter With a great roar, the ground in the battle area erupts in a mass of tangling thorn vines. PCs who miss Q'Riyr with a melee or ranged attack take a -2 to their next melee or ranged attack as the vines grab their weapons or implements and try to wrestle them away. Q'Riyr gains cover against ranged and blast attacks from the vines. The Eruption lasts for 1d2+2 rounds and then automatically recharges 3 rounds later. This is a Worldbreaker power. Eruption of Thorns Close false 90 Zone Powers that have the zone keyword create zones, magical areas that last for a round or more. A zone you create uses these rules, unless a power description says otherwise. • Fills an Area of Effect: The zone is created within an area of effect and fills each square in the area that is within line of effect of the origin square. • Unaffected by Attacks and the Environment: The zone cannot be attacked or physically affected, and terrain and environmental phenomena have no effect on it. For example, a zone that deals fire damage is unaffected by cold damage. • Movable Zones: If the power you use to create a zone allows you to move it, it’s a movable zone. At the end of your turn, the movable zone ends if you are not within range of at least 1 square of it (using the power’s range) or if you don’t have line of effect to at least 1 square of it. When you move a zone, you can’t move it through blocking terrain. • Overlapping Zones: If zones overlap and impose penalties to the same roll or game statistic, a creature affected by the overlapping zones is subjected to the worst penalty. Similarly, a creature in the overlapping area takes damage only from the zone that deals the most damage, regardless of damage type. • Death Ends: If you die, the zone ends immediately. 75 Poison A poison power delivers a nondamaging poisonous effect, deals poison damage, or both.
