In general I don&#039;t let the players know --I map out the possibilities of the challenge but it&#039;s the players job to come up with strategies and other actions. In the example, if the players have lured the guard over, most likely they&#039;ve already put that plan into motion.  The main key is supplying narrative so that the players are clear on what sort of things they can do.  Maybe hinting at his vulnerabilities can lead them to these or other actions.

Actually, even in a basic skill challenge with just branching, do you spell out the choices for the players before they make them?  In your nesting example, do they get to know up front that a successful Bluff will open up either Thievery or the possibility of a Knockout?  When do they find out that Knockout is a 3 success or fail?  Do you provide a list of the actions and their consequences to them at the start of the SC, or reveal it only if the players choose an action first?</description>
