Discussing matters of Diplomacy over at Trollsmyth’s, I suggested that skill challenges would be a worthy way to merge the crunch with the fluff of PC/NPC interactions. The clever riposte I recieved (en garde !) is that skill challenges are bah-roken.
But never fear! Help is on the way. Stalker on the ENWorld forums has presented the problem, and the cure.

I look forward to seeing how they work in actual play. When I first heard about them, they seemed like a great idea to steal, er, I mean, adopt for other versions of D&D. I’m also considering something similar for handling traps, since I’ve banished the thief class from my Moldvay/Cook/Labyrinth Lord hack.

yeah, I’m going to open up my game with some skill challenges and see how they go. The interesting setup I have (I’ll be detailing it in the blog next week) is going to be the players competing against locals at a Fair in various games/contests of skill.
